NABATS data quantifies phytoplankton abundance in lower Narragansett Bay from 1959 to 1997. 

Some species, like Detonula confervacea (below), prefer cold water and are found in the Bay only during winter.  As the Bay water warmed during 1959 to 1997, counts of this cold-water phytoplankton species declined.
